Don't be puzzled by this kaleidoscopic glass puzzle, it's only what one sees when looking up the Torre Mare Nostrum near la Barceloneta.
Water, cranes, docks,no doubt, it's a harbour. It's one of Barcelona's harbour. In the middle is the World Trade Center, designed by Pei.
Passeig Gracia is famous for its modernist buildings, La Pedrera and Casa Batlló by Anton Gaudi, Casa Amatller by Josep Puig i Cadafalch and others, but the avenue has more then that with buildings signed by lesser known architects but worth more then a look.
The Bari Gotic is Barcelona's oldest area, it's a mix of shops, restaurants, hotels, markets and bars. But there are real people living there, so although it is crowded with tourists, it still has a soul. Still.
Near Port Vell, on the beach of Barceloneta, this tilted tower is called L'estel Ferit - The Wounded Star. It was designed by Rebecca Horn and erected in 1992. It lights up in the night and evokes an old rusty lighthouse.
Rambla de les Flors. This was an umbrella shop, hence it's name : Casa de los Paraguas. The original owner became millionaire selling umbrellas, which is incredible when you know how little rain falls on Barcelona every year.
Plaza de España might be the most italian square in Barcelona. To understand what I mean, just stand for a minute or two at one of the traffic lights and count the scooters with couples passing in front of you.
